This old house of mine has stood a long, long time.
The plumbing leaks. The floorboards creak.
It’s no longer fit for me to inhabit it.
The roof is gone. It can’t last long.
Brides like a sunny day; corpses love the rain.
You can step into the river twice, but it won’t be the same.
Life is a funny old dog, or so I’m told.
And the good never have to grow old.
This house has been my home, the only one I’ve known.
It’s been my friend. But now it’s condemned.
Why should I wait until it falls of its own will?
It’s time for me to set it free.
Brides like a sunny day; corpses love the rain.
You can step into the river twice, but it won’t be the same.
Life is a funny old dog, or so they say.
But tomorrow will be another day.
This old heart of mine has beat a long, long time.
It’s earned a rest. It’s for the best.
Sometimes my wires get crossed. Some days I feel quite lost.
It’s time for me to be set free.
Brides like a sunny day; corpses love the rain.
You can step into the river twice, but it won’t be the same.
Life is a funny old dog, or so I’ve heard.
After all these years that’s all I’ve learned.
